For centuries people from all over the world have been using weapons to protect themselves. Around 400 BC, the Chinese use to fire bags filled with pepper and spices at their enemies. In an event you should feel the need to carry a protection device, the last thing your going to want is for someone to use your weapon against you. Unfortunately, this happens more than not.

According to Sanford Strong, retired San Diego police SWAT team instructor and author of “ Strong on Defense” FBI statistics and police reports from all over the country show that in over half of all instances where the victim was able to get to a “weapon” (usually sprays are mentioned) the attacker knocked it out of their hand before they could use it. Even when a gun is used for personal protection, it is estimated that more than 1/3rd of the time the victim is shot with their own gun. That’s more than 33% of the time.

Statistics even show that on average, 12% of police officers that are killed in the line of duty are killed with their own weapon. In the united states alone studies show that 1 and 3 women will be a victim of sexual assault in their lifetime. Also in the united states there are more than 200,000 victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault every year. In 2007 Rape happened to 248 people per day.
Every 31 minutes someone was murdered and every 1.2 minutes robbery occurred. As a result of these type of statistics, personal self defense weapon sales go through the roof. For good reasons people should carry a personal protection device, what better than pepper spray? The use of chemical weapons actually dates back thousands of years.
In a 2yr study conducted by the Portland, Maine police department, the introduction of pepper spray reduced the amount of injuries for both officers and civilians drastically. All across the country the results of pepper sprays have proven extremely useful. Pepper sprays are small, compact, powerful, and easy to conceal. Not to mention they’re not lethal either. However, pepper spray is a weapon and it should be treated like one.
